FOR MASS COMM 2035
I personally don’t care for Burger King, I never have. I’ll eat chicken fries every so often but that’s not what this blog post is about.
Burger King’s social media team is one of the best, if not THE best. I say this because of their relevance to current events in pop culture. On March 8th, @BurgerKing posted a tweet “When you’re like I don’t know what toppings to wear LOL” which was similar to Kim Kardashian’s recent *provocative* selfie that she posted to twitter with “When you’re like I have nothing to wear LOL” Kim K got a lot of publicity and flack for the said picture so for Burger King to play off of this and post their own tweet was brilliant. But this was not the first time Burger King has used pop culture to guide their tweets, it’s actually very common for them.
Also their use of hashtags is very clever and methodic, most of their hashtags now are based around their grilled hotdogs. If I didn’t know that Burger King’s food was already gross, I’d probably go to eat Burger King because of how cool their twitter is.
One way they could improve their twitter would be possible putting coupons or deals that come strictly from interacting or following them. I wouldn’t mind getting free cookies or a milkshake from mentioning Burger King. They would definitely gain a more active following. Check out more of Burger King’s tweets here: Twitter.com/BurgerKing
